Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Travel India (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit travelindia.io (the “Site”). We aim to be transparent about what we collect and why, and to give you reasonable control over your information.

If you have questions or want to exercise any of the rights described below, contact us at ashvineenagle@travelindia.io.

1. Who we are

Travel India is a personal travel blog operated by Ashvinee Nagle, sharing India travel guides, destination stories, and trip planning resources. The Site is hosted in India.

For the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA), the data controller (or “data fiduciary” under DPDPA) for this Site is Ashvinee Nagle, reachable at ashvineenagle@travelindia.io.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what is needed to run the Site and understand how visitors use it. Specifically:

Information you provide directly

  • Comments: If you leave a comment on a post, we collect the name, email address, and any other information you choose to share in the comment form. Your IP address and browser user-agent string are also recorded to help detect spam.
  • Newsletter and form signups: If you submit your email through the newsletter signup form or any other form on the Site, we collect the email address you provide (along with any other fields you fill in) so we can send you occasional emails about new posts, travel guides, and trip planning content. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email with “unsubscribe” or by emailing us at ashvineenagle@travelindia.io.
  • Contact messages: If you email us or contact us via WhatsApp using the contact details listed on the Site, we receive the contents of your message along with your email address or phone number. We use this only to respond to you. Messages sent via WhatsApp are also processed by Meta Platforms in accordance with the WhatsApp Privacy Policy.

Information collected automatically

  • Log data: Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records server logs including IP address, browser type, referring page, pages viewed, and timestamp. This data is used for security, troubleshooting, and aggregate analytics.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Site (see Section 4).
  • Cookies: Small text files stored by your browser (see Section 5).

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data (such as government identifiers, financial account details, or health information) through this Site. Please do not submit such information through comments or contact forms.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To operate the Site, respond to comments and messages, and provide the content you request
  • To send newsletter or update emails to subscribers who have signed up, and to manage those subscriptions
  • To understand how visitors find and use the Site, so we can improve the content and experience
  • To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security incidents
  • To comply with legal obligations when applicable

Legal basis (for EU/UK visitors): Where GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for analytics cookies and newsletter emails, on our legitimate interest for site security and basic operation, and on the performance of a request you make (e.g. responding to your email) where relevant.

4. Analytics: Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand aggregate visitor behavior. Google Analytics may collect information such as your IP address (typically truncated), device and browser type, pages viewed, time on page, referral source, and approximate location (city/country level).

This data is processed by Google on our behalf and may be transferred to and stored on Google servers, including in the United States. Google’s handling of this data is governed by their own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. You can also disable cookies in your browser settings (see Section 5).

5. Cookies

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device to remember information between visits. We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies set by WordPress, used for basic site functionality. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in cookies for your own convenience; these last about one year.
  • Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, used to distinguish unique visitors and measure site usage. These typically expire within 2 years.
  • Login and session cookies set when an administrator logs in to manage the Site. Regular visitors will not encounter these.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking essential cookies may affect site functionality; blocking analytics cookies will simply stop the Site from measuring your visit and will not affect what you can read.

6. Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this Site may include embedded content (e.g. YouTube videos, Google Maps, images, or social media posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly. These third parties may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you are logged into a service they operate.

If you leave a Gravatar-enabled comment, an anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you have an account, so your profile picture can be displayed. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/.

7. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the limited ways below:

  • Service providers who help us run the Site, such as our hosting company (Hostinger) and Google Analytics. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes beyond what is necessary to provide their service.
  • Legal compliance: If we are required to by law or to respond to a valid legal request, we may disclose information to authorities. We will only do so when we have a good-faith belief it is legally required.
  • Site protection: If necessary to investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

8. International data transfers

The Site is hosted in India. Some of our service providers (notably Google Analytics) may process data outside India, including in the United States and other countries. Where applicable laws require it, we rely on the service provider’s standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards to protect transferred data.

9. How long we keep your information

  • Comments: Retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically. You may request deletion at any time.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe or request removal.
  • Email and WhatsApp correspondence: Kept only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry, then deleted within a reasonable period unless a longer retention is required by law.
  • Analytics data: Aggregated and retained according to Google’s standard retention settings (typically 14 months for user-level data).
  • Server logs: Retained for a short period (typically 30-90 days) by our hosting provider for security purposes.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the information we hold about you
  • Correction — request that we correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion — request that we delete your information (subject to legal exceptions)
  • Restriction — request that we limit how we use your information
  • Objection — object to certain uses of your information, including analytics
  • Withdraw consent — where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time
  • Lodge a complaint — with your local data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated

If you are in India, you have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including the right to access, correction, completion, updating, and erasure of your personal data, and the right to nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf in case of death or incapacity.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at ashvineenagle@travelindia.io. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 30 days). We may need to verify your identity before acting on certain requests.

11. Children’s privacy

This Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at ashvineenagle@travelindia.io and we will take steps to delete it.

12. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including using HTTPS encryption for all site traffic and relying on our hosting provider’s security infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the services we use, or applicable law. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide a more prominent notice on the Site.

We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
